This Week at Starworld: Tiger and Dragon Family Night Plus Much More

Dear Starworld Families,

As we move into mid January, our focus continues to be clear and intentional:

Life Skill of the Month: CONSISTENCY
Instructional Focus: Age-Appropriate Self-Defense & Strong Basics

Everything students are working on this week—basics, drills, games, and mat chats—is built around one simple truth:
consistent practice helps students develop real, lasting confidence.

⭐ Tiger & Dragon Family Night

In short: Family Night gives you, the parent, a clear understanding of what your child is learning, why the training looks the way it does, and how your involvement and consistency support confidence, focus, and real skill development through traditional martial arts training—not just sport-based activity.

Family Night is designed to help parents better understand how traditional martial arts training supports students in developing:

  • Confidence
  • Focus and listening skills
  • Emotional control
  • Personal safety awareness

Families with younger students often find this evening especially valuable because it connects what you see in class to the deeper purpose behind the training, helping your child grow through structure, discipline, and skills that carry beyond the mat.

What Family Night Is Not

Family Night is not a belt test.

Belt testing is:

  • Formal
  • High-stakes
  • Performance-focused
  • Outcome-based (for example, “Did my child pass?”)

Family Night is different.

What Family Night Is

Family Night is a guided look into how your child grows through traditional martial arts training.

You’ll see:

  • Why certain drills are repeated and how repetition builds real skill
  • How games are intentionally designed to teach practical self-defense
  • How basics develop balance, control, and confidence
  • How character lessons are woven into physical training

Students will train exactly as they normally do. No one is singled out or put on the spot.
This evening is about understanding the learning process, not evaluating performance.

👀 Why This Matters

During regular classes, parents often see:

  • Warm-ups
  • Students lining up
  • Short portions of training

What’s harder to see is:

  • The purpose behind each drill
  • How skills are intentionally connected over time
  • How consistency—rather than natural talent—helps students build confidence

Family Night is designed to make those connections clear so parents can better understand, support, and reinforce their child’s training.

🐯🐉 A Note for Tiger & Dragon Parents

If your child is a Tiger or Dragon, we strongly encourage at least one parent to attend.
This evening often answers questions parents didn’t even realize they had, and helps families feel confident about their child’s progress and training path.

In Class This Week

Students are reinforcing:

  • Strong basics and balance
  • Age-appropriate grab escapes and awareness
  • Focus, listening, and following directions
  • The idea that small improvements, done consistently, matter

These lessons are supported through:

  • Our Youth/Teen student worksheet
  • Our Tiger & Dragon coloring sheet
  • Instructor Mat chats centered on consistency and effort

Thank you for trusting us with your family’s training and personal growth. Strong basics and consistent effort help every student build confidence they can rely on in everyday life.

We look forward to seeing students and Parents with their Tiger and or Dragon on Friday evening.

Tang Soo!

Dear Reader and family, I want to take a moment to share two fundraisers we currently have underway, as well as a volunteer opportunity with our nonprofit. These efforts reflect what we try to teach our students every day—giving back, helping others, and doing the right thing when we’re able. Please know there’s no pressure to do everything. Any level of support, time, donations, or simply spreading the word is appreciated. 🌍 Fundraiser #1: Helping a Student from Africa Compete in the U.S. We...
